Sage delivers powerful environmental compliance platform with new connected service

Sage ERP X3 helps customers respond to European REACH regulation through its Verteego alliance.

Sage has reinforced its ability to address its customers’ environmental compliance needs through a global alliance with software vendor Verteego.

Sage ERP X3 is now connected to Verteego’s online REACH traceability platform, a solution targeted at retailers and manufacturers to help ensure traceability of chemicals down their supply chain and avoid supply chain disruptions. The new connected service demonstrates how hybrid models using on-premise software and the cloud can maximise customer benefits. With the development of this new connector, Sage has shown it can react quickly to the evolving and demanding environmental requirements of European mid-market companies.

REACH is the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use. It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The law entered into force on 1 June 2007.

Jeremy Waterman, Managing Director of Softline Accpac and Sage MMD Africa, part of the Sage Group, says the REACH regulation is applicable to companies that manufacture and export their goods to the European Union. “Whether you are based in South Africa or in Africa, you will be required to gather information on the properties of chemical substances utilised in your processes and their safe handling. The fact that Sage ERP X3 is able to provide this functionality will therefore greatly aid manufacturers and exporters that deal with the European Union,” says Waterman.

Thanks to this unique combination of software, retailers and manufacturers can now organise and ensure the traceability of chemicals down their supply chain, collect REACH data from their suppliers, and provide their customers with reliable REACH reports. The solution effectively maximises Sage ERP X3’s capabilities, while Verteego ensures compliance with REACH traceability obligations.

Benoit Gruber, VP Product Marketing and Alliances for Sage ERP X3, commented: “Sage has chosen to partner with Verteego in the development of specialised connected services to Sage ERP X3 to help its customers meet these new challenges. REACH compliance is the first stage of this process, with the next being energy management. Our manufacturing and retail customers need a simple, yet powerful chemical supply chain solution to comply with REACH both effectively and efficiently. We chose Verteego because of their expertise and our respective strengths in manufacturing and retail.”

Jeremy Fain, Co-founder and CEO at Verteego, added: “We believe Sage ERP X3 customers who are required to collate information down the supply chain will be amazed at the ease and power of the user experience enabled by this new, connected service due to the level of automation it provides. In addition to compliance, mid-sized companies can now reassure their stakeholders about the innocuousness of their products. It is key for both their employees and consumers as it supports engagement in responsible purchasing and environmental policy.”

Article 33 of European regulation, REACH applies to importers of goods from outside the European Union, as well as assemblers or manufacturers of goods within the EU. It makes traceability of hazardous chemicals down the supply chain mandatory. The article places greater responsibility on industry to manage the risks from hazardous chemicals, also called SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern).
